Per Ian Rapoport J.J. Watt has signed a 2-yr/$31M with the Cardinals. $23M of that is guaranteed money. When I did my breakdown of where I thought J.J. should go when he was released by Houston I didn't even have Arizona on the list. I assumed J.J. would go down the ring chasing path rather than the money path. Perhaps he feels like he got the best of both worlds in Arizona. I don't have a whole lot of faith in Kliff Kingsbury or Kyler Murray based off what I've seen from them in their 2 seasons. The rest of their defense, mainly the secondary, has some major issues that need to be addressed as well this offseason. At this point I do not see the Cardinals as Super Bowl contenders, especially coming out of a tough NFC West division. The good news for J.J. though is he will be a free agent again in just 2 years, so if he can play well he will likely have another chance to hop onto a contender if things don't pan out in Arizona. It's weird seeing him in a Cardinals uniform.
The running joke in the league for awhile is that Arizona is an early retirement home. Recently players like Terrell Suggs had gone to Arizona to end their careers. At just 31 years old these next 2 years likely won't be J.J.'s last, but with his injury history and the beatings he has taken over his career you never know. I will say this, there is much worse places to play and live than the Arizona desert. Yeah the summer is ungodly hot, but the rest of the year is ideal. Best of luck to J.J. in Arizona, should've went to Green Bay or Buffalo.
